We have two Neumann U-48 Tube Microphones with almost consecutive serial numbers for sale.

These beautiful Neumanns are the kings of tube vintage microphones. They sound incredible according to our thousands of clients, and you can inspect them at our office before you buy. They belonged to our studio, Sorcerer Sound, which we closed last year after hitting a high note with our big Norah Jones Grammy win (album of the year). These are our last Neumanns which we have decidied to sell.

Their value has gone up tremedously, and will not depreciate like new "large diaphragm" models will, which makes them a money-making tool as well as an investment. The Neumann U47 is the "in-demand" name and sound that people look for when recording serious vocals. Most serious artists will always prefer this to the latest greatest fad or Neumann copy.

The microphones come with a power supply and cable. The supplies have been modified with new type IEC power cables that unplug, instead of the old coffee pot type that were in there originally.

Each microphone has a built-in windscreen/pop filter to prevent the most common damage to these large-diaphragm mics- breath moisture. They have always been well-treated, because the foam windscreens (easily removed) have been protecting them for years. We installed them because of the accidents that occur occasionally, and to protect them from non-thinking freelance engineers who believe that the foam windscreens "cut down on the highs" and couldn’t care less about a studio’s property. Since they didn’t know about the foam, they were quick to point out that it had the best sound they ever heard. Which is probably because all the other studios have unprotected mikes. Most studios request that the engineers use a windscreen, but when the studio owner turns their back the engineers take off the windscreen. Some engineers have put these mikes in high-wind environments such as in front of a bass drum. Needless to say, these mikes weren’t use for drums and were well-protected anyway. I don’t think you’ll find any other U47s and U48s that were so well cared for by a recording studio.

We also have a schematic and some technical documentation from Gotham Audio, which will be of interest.
